No expert, but it sounds like, after 20 years, the threads on the crown and/or the crown tube are worn enough that they don't mate tightly anymore. It's a simple fix for a watchmaker, but it will require OEM parts so it won't be a dirt-cheap fix. The rotor is not disconnecting from the winding mechanism, it's a common issue caused by one screw coming loose. The heavy winding is because the crown stem is also turning the rotor which is also why you can feel it. It won't fit itself and needs Breitling attention. I read up online and apparently this is common with retail ones, with no longer term solution as it does reoccur once fixed. As you press the crown in to screw it down, the stem prevents part A from pressing in, so the spring compresses. Depending on the exact design that msybir may not disengage the squares, allowing you to turn the crown without continuing to wind the watch.
